The Blog Goes Live

Hello Hockey Zone! The blog is now live. On this site, you will find all relevant news and updates on the latest events happening around the zone. Bookmark the blog or subscribe to our email newsletter by clicking here. In any case, the Discord will notify about new posts.

The first order of business is to get everyone acquainted with how to use the blog. There are many ways of using this site, but the one that we’re going to go over today is how to write for the blog. That’s right, your dream of becoming an actual sports journalist is now within your reach! All you have to do is sign up to the site and start posting.

How to become an HZ Journalist

  1. Ask a mod on Discord to give you the ‘Journalist’ role.
  2. Head over to the Register page.
  3. You can register either by filling out the form or by using your Discord account.
  4. Once registered, you can click on Login on the top bar of the site to log in
  5. After you have logged in, you can begin to write and post your article!

When posting, please make sure that you select the appropriate category:

For example, if I am writing an opinion or editorial:

Select ‘Editorials / Opinion’

We want to keep ‘League News’ for RSHL related posts (things like game reports or summaries, power rankings of the week, player reports, etc.) and ‘Blog News’ for any updates on the blog itself (such as if the website will undergo maintenance or any changes).

You don’t need approval to post on the website, you just need the Discord role and to have an account on the blog.

You can choose the thumbnail that will show up when the link to your article is shared:

The options for this can be found at the bottom of your article when in the editor. It is called MightyShare, which is a plugin used to change thumbnails for links. There are many options from which to choose from. Just pick the one that you like the most. It will set the title in the thumbnail to be the same as your post title, but you can override that if you wish.

Featured Images

By default, the featured image on your post (the picture at the top of every article) will be set automatically to be this:

However, you can change it to be something else by going here in the editor:

The image doesn’t need to be a specific size, since the site will compress and resize the image accordingly. Just make sure it is appropriate and fits to the main topic of the article.

Audio Podcasts

As an aside, you can also post other media (not just written articles) if that’s what you want. For example, you can upload audio files if you want to create a podcast. Audio will be embedded on a post automatically and users will be able to listen to it directly.

If you need help with posting anything on the blog, please reach out to me on Discord and I will try my best to respond and assist you.

Thank you for reading!
